Bi Lo Deals 1/18 - 1/24

Sorry a little late with some of the grocery deals for this week. In scanning Bi-Lo, here are some things I noticed that are a good deal in this area. - Also, I wanted to note that Bi-Lo has what they call "Meal Deals" they usually offer every week and then also some "Fuel Perk Promotions". Be careful when choosing these....just because they call them a "deal" they might not necessarily be so. So...just think about those "deals" prior to grabbing them. Sometimes they are GREAT deals, sometimes OK deals, and sometimes not a deal at all. You have to be the choice of that.

This week Bi-Lo has few items on sale for "3 Day Sale" which runs 1/20 - 1/22. I did see they had their Tilapia Fillets on sale for $3.99 per pack. This is a good price, especially if you are doing that "new eating lifestyle" (some refer to as diet).

Otherwise, not a really great ad this week in my opinion, but I will venture over there to pick up a few items, such as:

Frugal Friday Family Fun - Board Games!

First - I want to start out by saying I LOVE this game! If you have not heard of it is "Logo" - duh - I am sure you see that above! It is kind of like Trivial Pursuit but you dont have to be a brainiac to play - you simply have to know your commercials, ad jingles and logos of famous brands. Anyhoo - I saw this game advertised a lot before Christmas and I kept telling my husband "I want Logo for Christmas". I must have said it 20 times and everytime we were in a store and I saw it, I would say "Oh look, there is that Logo game I want." I was hoping with all that I would find it under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. Well - -- - I did! I was so excited.....Then a few days later my husband said "I thought you were joking about that game and bought it kind of as a gag gift.".....REALLY???? I RARELY ask for anything, so when I pointed it out 20-30 times I did not realize he would think I was joking?!

Anyhoo - he did get it. I guess he thought I may have been joking because my family does not sit down and play board games. Well.....they USED to not sit down and play board games. Now - - - they have became regular board game players - which takes me to the point of Frugal Friday Family Fun!

Yes, board games are not cheap. However, when else can you pay $25 for a game that will last for years to come and not $25 for a family of 4 to play one game of putt putt! Christmas night I was like (of course) "Let's play Logo"....after a few eyes rolling and possibly a few muffled groans from the boys, everyone did eventually please me and sit down to play. About 10 minutes later we we were all laughing and having a great time! Even hubby who I dont recall sitting down to play a game in a very long time and my son of course......if it dont have a cord attached to it and hooked to a gaming system - it ain't a game! My daughter, of course she was "game" for it. :)

Since that night, we have played the game a few more times when time has allowed and we love it every time. We have even had guests over to play with us as well.

So.....next time you have a quiet evening and looking for something fun to do, turn off the TV, pop some popcorn and pull out a board game!

Thrifty Thursday - Save on Dryer Sheets!

It is Thrifty Thursday again and this week we are talking about dryer sheets! Remember last time I had talked about how you could cut your Brillo pads in half to get more use out of them and not let so much go to waste by staying wet and rusting, etc? Well - did you realize you could do the same with dryer sheets?

As soon as you buy a new box of dryer sheets, open the box, pull the sheets out and cut them in half from top to bottom (vertically). Then you can simply put them right back in the box and dispense just half at a time. A half of sheet is normally plenty to do one load. However, if you are doing a large load of towels and like them to be "extra soft and smelly" then by all means toss 2 in, you are still at that point only using one sheet. It will make your box last about twice as long and you will still get the same results!

Happy Wednesday! Half way through the week already! So - if you are trying out that "new eating lifestyle" (sometimes referred to as diet) - how are you doing? Heard somewhere ealier this week that most people "give up" on their resolutions by next week, hang in there, let's prove them wrong!

Monday Menu Plan

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and ready to kick off this week! Did you get a chance to get your Menu Plan together for the week?

This week I am trying mostly all new recipes! Because I started my adventure with The Pampered Chef as an independant consultant, I am trying out several recipes on my family before I go try them out on strangers! Last night we started with a Ham and Cheese Calzone which turned out rather yummy! Below is my plan for the rest of the week:

TNT Recipe Tuesday - Chocolate Chip Sensation

Happy Tuesday everyone! Long holiday weekend is over and time to get back to the normal daily grind! Time to kick off our TNT Recipe Tuesdays with a dessert item. For those not familiar - TNT on this site means "Tried N' True" Recipe - basically a recipe that I have made for my family that they repeatedly ask for time and again. Today's recipe is a dessert recipe that I actually received from The Pampered Chef YEARS ago. I have not made it in several years and decided on a whim last weekend to make it for some company I was having over for dinner. Well - needless to say, it was gobbled up and 2 days later my family asked me to make it again! So.....thought I would share it with all of you here.

It is called Chocolate Chip Sensation. My husband likes it because although it is dessert - it is not that "Too sweet" taste. Here it is:

Ingredients include:

16 oz roll package choclate chip cookie dough (Such as Pillsbury, found in the dairy section)

8 oz cream cheese (softened)

1 pint half and half

1/3 cup sugar

3.9 oz pkg. instant choclate pudding

Pecans, chopped (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Take the cookie dough and smoosh it into a large ball of dough. Place it on your pan (I use a large pizza stone) and flatten it out to a 13" circle. Bake it for 12-15 minutes until browned.

Mix cream cheese and sugar and set aside.

Mix half and half and pudding mix, set aside for minutes or until "set".

Once cookie is completely cool, spread the cream cheese mixture on top of the cookie, just like icing a cake. Once that layer is complete, pour the pudding on top and spread it over the cream cheese mixture and then sprinkle with nuts.

Chill until ready to serve. To make it easy to cut into serving size pieces, I simply use a pizza cutter and cut in to squares.

Menu Mondays - None for me this week!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe New Years and that you are now ready to kick off this New Year as an organized, frugal friendly fun, recipe cooking, money saving Woman of 2012! Woo Hoo!!!

My goal this year is on Mondays, to post my "Menus for the Week". I have found in the past that if I sit down for just a few minutes over the weekend and plan out my meals for the week and have a plan in place, weeknights go much smoother around here. Thought if I shared my menu plans with you, that might encourage you and help you put together your own menus for the week. As I start to add recipes here on the blog, if I am cooking I recipe that I have already shared, I will link that night's meal to the recipe in case you want to try it to.

This week - however - no Menu Monday. One reason, with having such a long holiday weekend from work, I really didn't realize it was even Monday until just moments ago! Has that happened to you over the holidays - where you lose track of time? Another reason is half of my family is going to be missing in action this week due to their going to a particular Bowl Game for their favorite college team. Lastly, in looking at my own calendar this week, I have meetings just about every night this week after work....so since it is just two of us and half the time I wont even be here - I think it will be a "fend for yourself or famine" week unfortunately!

Product Review: Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Dog Food

As a Bzzagent, I am provided with various products/services throughout the year to try out and use in my home and then give honest feedback (good or bad!) on what I thought about the products. In return for the product, I not only provide them with my feedback but I also spread the word (bzzzzzz) to friends, families and others regarding information on the product so they can decide whether it may be something for them to use or give a try as well.

Several weeks ago, I was offerred the chance to try out Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Dog Food. Well....when I say I was given the chance to try it - I mean actually that my three dogs Karma, Juliet and Romeo were given the chance to try it and all I had to do was sit back and watch. To give a little background of my choosey canines, Karma (Standard Poodle) is 9 and usually barely eats her food unless she decides she is hungry that day; Romeo, a toy breed, is almost 5 and also usually only eats about half of his daily intake. Then there is Juliet, our almost 3 year old Golden Retriever who will eat anything and everything you put it on front of her, whether it be edible or not! Well - - being as I dont just give my dogs a bowl full of "new food" to try I have been gradually mixing the Ideal Balance Dog food in with their regular food for a while now and do you know - when I do that - all 3 of their bowls are licked clean to the bottom?! I thought it may have been a fluke (when it came to Romeo and Karma) so I have only been mixing their food up every few days. On the days I dont mix it, sure enough, half their food is left in the bowl....but on the days I mix in the Ideal Balance food, the bowls are completely emptied! Goes without saying, Juliet's is always empty!

You may be wondering what is so special about this Ideal Balance Dog food produced by Hill's Science Diet....Well.....it is a high grade brand of food that is not only tasty (apparently), but also nutrionally balanced for your best friend's well being. The first ingredient listed in this food is FRESH CHICKEN!!! That's right Chicken, not chicken meal, not chicken parts....but FRESH WHOLE CHICKEN. It also is chocked full of fruits and vegetables including cranberries. There is also no corn or artificial flavors. So when you pour the food into their bowls, it is all the same brown color, not red, greens and oranges from articifical coloring. (And a bonus for the humans, because there is no corn or other "fillers" in the food, the size of the "poo" is much smaller as well! Very handy when you have 3 dogs!)

Frugal Family Fun Friday! - Christmas Season

At this time of the year, everything seems so rushed with things to do, things to buy, places to go, people to see, it is still important to fit in those "Family Fun" moments. Especially good if you can find "frugal" things to do without sucking more money out of your ever shrinking wallets.

One thing I started YEARS ago and still enjoy doing (when I make the time to do it with teenagers in tow) is to drive around and look at Christmas lights. I don't mean just look at lights as you drive through your neighborhood on the way to shopping or somewhere else either.

What I like to do is for everyone to get dressed in their pj's (hubby doesn't agree to do that part - bah humbug!).....but anyhoo, the rest of us dress up in our pjs, make some hot cocoa, jump in the car and just drive. We drive through our neighborhood and look at all the lights and then go on to other neighborhoods in the area that are known for lots of decorating as well. We vote on what ones we like, what ones we think are tacky, etc, etc. Of course, the ones mom likes (the simply white lights, wreaths and red bows) no one else likes. But we have fun just looking at them together.

Best part is - doesn't cost anything. Well....of course it costs gas to drive around, which certainly is not cheap these days, but other than that it cost nothing and "kids" of all ages, from 1 to 100, like to do it!

Thrifty Thursday! - - Save on Brillo Pads

OK - by show of hands, how many of you have used a brillo pad and then came back to use it a short time later only for it to be all rusty and nasty?! and then you had to throw the brillo pad away?! Oh...come on now....raise your hand - you know you have!! There you go........

Well.......to cut down on wasting, next time you grab that Brillo pad (or other similar cleaning device) out of the box, BEFORE you use it go ahead and grab your scissors and cut that pad in half! (This will also help sharpen your scissors too!) Place half back in the package and then use the smaller Brillo pad for your cleaning purpose. It will still be large enough to clean whatever it is that you need to clean that day and most likely use up what cleaning life it has in it. Then you can toss it - for the other half to remain all pristine clean in the box for its next use - instead of it sitting there waiting to rust all over your sink!

Not only will this save on rustiness sitting around, but will also double the length of time most likely that the box of pads will last you which, as a result, will save you money!

Bi-Lo Deals Highlights 12/14-12/20

OK, I'm a little more impressed with Publix ad this week then Bi-Lo's, but still some good deals to be had. Who knows - you might need more of what Bi-Lo has on sale this week then Publix. So be sure to scan the entire circular to see if anything you need and STOCK UP! Remember - you save the most when you buy when low price and stock up on it, then to wait until you need it and have to pay full price!

A few things I noted of interst this week at BiLo were:

The Meal Deal this week is: Buy a Michael Angelo Family Size Entree for $7.99 and get a FREE Pepperridge Farm Garlic Bread, FREE Pepperidge Farm Cake and a FREE 6 pk cans of Coke.

Hot Pockets are on sale for $2.00

Carolina Pride Cocktail Smokies at $2.64 and there are several .50 off coupons in the 22 9/11, 22 10/9 and ss 12/4 circulars bringing price down to $1.64 each

Smithfield Bacon at $2.99 - use $1 off coupon in 12/4 SS circular and get that for $1.99 (reg $5.99)

Hungry Jack AuGratin Potatoes .94 use $1/2 in the 11/6 RP cicular and pay .44 each

Domino Sugar $2.49 - several coupons out there making it $1.49

Again, lots more deals out there. If you scan the circular, you will also see there are lots of ways to earn BONUS FUEL PERKS this week. Be careful though, sometimes you have to spend $20 to save $4 on gas and it may not even be on stuff you really want..... the fuel perk deals a lot of times come in handy, but sometimes they are not such a great deal...so think about them before you dive right in.

Publix Deals Highlights 12/14 - 12/24

LOTS of great deals starting at Publix tomorrow so be sure to scan the circular for all the great BOGO and other deals they have. Note that this week's ad will cover all the way through Christmas Eve so you have 10 days to get all these deals in prior to Christmas Day! For some of us, that means two pay periods so two grocery trips for double the savings!

Some of the deals that I saw that you may can get FREE or pretty darn cheap if you have the matching coupons available are:

Coles Breadsticks - $1.49 each - downloand from their website the .50 off coupon and pay .49!

Kraft Mayo or Miracle Whip - $2.44. You can get as low as .44 if you have the Publix $1 coupon and match it with the printable that was available online of $1.00. If you dont have the printable, there was a .35 coupon in the 11/10 SS circular so you would still only pay .74!

Chinet Napkins - $1.07 each. Downloand the $1 coupon on their website = .07 napkins!

Mueller Pasta .71 - use .75 11/20 SS coupon and get FREE PASTA! Or there was also a 11/13 RP coupon for FREE PASTA with purchase of two Ragu sauces which are also on sale this week!

Duncan Hines Cake Mix - .94 - use .50 11/6 SS = FREE CAKE MIX!

Site Review: Coupon Chief

I was recently asked to check out the website of Coupon Chief and share my thoughts of the site with my fellow bloggers, friends and family. If you do any type of shopping online, you MUST check this site out!

First of all, there are THOUSANDS of stores that this site offers coupon codes for. What is a coupon code? Well, if you do any type of shopping online, you know that when you go to the companies checkout there is usually a box that says "enter promo code" or "enter coupon code" or something like that. A lot of times you may not have a coupon code and you simply skip over that box. HOWEVER, not any more! From now on, any time you want to purchase something on line, the first thing you need to do is go to Coupon Chief and see if they have a promo code they can provide you to use on your order. Some coupon codes that you might find would provide you with free shipping, or perhaps $25 off a $100 purchase, 25% off, etc. The options are endless and of course change constantly as deal "promos" are found for you! You can search by either the name of a particular store you want to purchase from or, even an item. Say you want to look for "teen fashion". You simply go to Coupon Chief, plug in "teen fashion" as your search item and they will pull up a listing of all stores that offer teen fashions along with matching coupon codes. When you find the store/coupon you would like to purchase from and use, you simply click on the "copy" button for that coupon and paste that particular coupon code into the checkout of the site you are ordering from. Your savings will instantly show up on your online invoice. It is that easy!

Coupon Chief also offers a "Pays-2-Share Program". If you are shopping online and come across a coupon code that Coupon Chief does not already have in their listing of offers, you can actually upload that coupon code to their site and if anyone clicks on that offer and makes a purchase, Coupon Chief will pay you 2% of the total sales purchased when someone uses that coupon! So, not only is Coupon Chief a "savings site", it could also be a "money making site" as well!

One other great feature they have is you can set up a profile on their website that provides information on what types of items or stores that you like to shop from and they will email you alerts when there are deals and promos that you may be interested in.

If you do any type of online shopping, I would highly recommend you check out Coupon Chief! I do not personally do a lot of online shopping, but I just may start having found this new site!

Day 11 - Meet Charlie

Heeeeeere's Charlie!

Well, normally there would be a picture right above here but hubby drove off again without me getting a chance to snap a picture of Charlie. I'll upload when I can.

Who is Charlie? Well, Charlie is my hubby's new truck. (I always name our vehicles, hubby is not amused and does not approve of the name "Charlie" but I figured I name them, I call them by name, so no one else really needs to like the name, right?) Well anyhoo, we set out Saturday morning to have a nice quiet lunch and do some shopping (nothing fun - - new part for the kitchen sink, possibly rent a carpet cleaner, get the dogs groomed, etc.). We even gave the kids a credit card so they could go get lunch themselves. Well......we show up at the restaurant and who walks in 10 minutes later but the kids! We can't even pay them to leave us alone! LOL. We hurried and ate and then left so we could attempt to lose them again without them following us when the phone rings. The dogs are already done at the groomers, so we headed back to pick them up and drop them off at home. We once again get back in the car to go do our errands when the kids call. They are at a local clothing store and found some "stuff" they needed. So, we stopped in with them, everybody got some clothes (I got running clothes - go figure) and once again we leave the children to finally get our errands done as we have to get home for a family graduation party by 5:30.........

Needless to say, the only thing we accomplished on our list was picking up the sink part. On a whim we decided to drive West Ashley "just to look" to see what trucks were out there available for sale. Well......about 5 hours later we were driving home with a new truck - Charlie! Talk about a last minute whim!! We rushed home, ran a brush through my hair and off to the graduation party - albeit an hour or so late. But...we did get there. Congratulations Skylar on graduation!

Needless to say after a whirlind of a day, no walking, running or training otherwise happened today. You never think about how exhausting buying a new car can be!

Set the alarm tonight though to get up at 6:45 a.m. for my first morning run! Wish me luck!

Book Review: Rick & Bubba's Big Honkin' Book of Grub

I recently received this book through the Thomas Nelson book program, BookSneeze, to read and provide my honest review of the book. I was not required to provide a "good review", simply an honest one. I did not receive any other compensation other than receiving a free copy of this book.

When I was advised I would be receiving this book, I was thrilled! As most everyone knows who follows my blog or knows me at all, I am always looking for new recipes to try out so I couldn't wait to receive this book. While most everyone is always looking for "healthy recipes" these days, I simply look for scrumptious, easy cooking. By the title of this book, that is what I figured I would get!

Well.....out of 214 pages, there are only about 23 recipes in this entire "cookbook". So......not really a cookbook after all. I would consider this book more of a humorous look on eating and why Americans LOVE to eat! You will learn such things as "Diet starts with D-I-E for a reason", you will learn weight-loss tips such as "Jog, instead of walking, to your refrigrator" or "Never put both feet on the scale". The "Two Sexiest Fat Mean Alive" will also provide you with a listing of their all-time favorite places to eat - which also includes the best place on this side of the pearly gates - the ultimate "Church Potlock"!

If you are looking for a humorous book for a foodie in your life, or perhaps someone that has always dieted and just really wants to "Live" their life around the food they adore, then this is the book for them. On the other hand, if you are looking for a real cookbook, you may want to skip right over this one.

TNT Tuesday - Crockpot Lasagna

OK, I know it is only Monday. However, since I been posting "TNT Tuesday" on Wednesday's or not at all, figured I'd at least be early this week! :o)

This is a crockpot recipe that my family enjoyed the first time I made it. I do not make this too often because it is not one of those recipes you can throw in the pot at 7 in the morning and cook for the 9-10 hours that I am away at work. This one only cooks for 6 hours......but it is good to fix on a weekend when I am around the house but don't feel like standing over the stove cooking for hours to have dinner on the table. I can throw this in at noon and be ready to eat at 6:00. I believe I found this recipe in a "Mr. Food" Cookbook.

Crockpot Lasagna

1 lb. ground meat

1 tsp. Italian Seasoning

1 jar (28 oz.) Spaghetti Sauce

1/3 cup water

8 lasagna noodles (uncooked)

15 oz. ricotta cheese

2 cup mozarella cheese (or more if you prefer!)

* Brown ground meat with Italian Seasoning, drain.

* Combine Spaghetti Sauce and water in a bowl and stir until mixed.

* Put 4 noodles in bottom of greased crockpot (you may have to break them to make them fit to cover bottom of crock.)

* Layer 1/2 of the meat on top of the noodles, then 1/2 of the sauce.

* Spread ricotta cheese over sauce, and then sprinkle with 1 cup mozarella.

* Then repeat with remaining noodles, then meat, sauce and mozarella cheese.

Cook on high for 1 hour and then switch to low and continue to cook for 5 hours.

Book Review: Hand of Fate by Lis Wiehl

Do you love crime dramas? If so, you may want to check out this recently released book from the New York Times Best-Selling Author, Lis Wiehl. This is actually the second book in the "Triple Threat" Series. Do not worry if you have not read the first book. I did not, and I was still able to follow along just fine.

This book tells the story of how outspoken radio personality, Jim Fate, was killed by a poisonous gas of some sort while he was on the air recording his show "Hand of Fate". In order to help solve the mystery of who, on a long list of suspects, would have killed Jim Fate, the "Triple Threat Club" steps in. The trio includes a federal prosecutor, an FBI agent and a hard-working journalist. Follow along as they try to figure out the mystery of this murder, deal with the widespread panic and havoc this murder has caused throughout the City, all while each of them also deal with their personal issues and secrets.

This was a very easy and fast-paced read for me with a surprise twist ending. I finished it in two days just wanting to know how each of the "club members" manage in their lives from day to day. I will be going to the book store to purchase the first in the series for sure!

TNT Tuesday - Cheeseburgers

Yes, I know it is Wednesday, but figured "TNT Tuesday on Wednesday" was better than not at all!

This is the recipe that my husband LOVES to use when grilling burgers for the family. The recipe as posted makes four (4) 1/4-pound burger patties (pre-cooked). We obviously double the recipe when making them because we are simply little piggies! :)

Cheeseburgers

1 lb. ground chuck or ground beef
1 tbs. Worcestershire Sauce
1 egg
1/4 c. breadcrumbs
Garlic Clove, crushed
2 oz. shredded cheddar (we use more cheese!)
4 Hamburger Buns
Toppings of your choice

* Mix all ingredients together well.
* Shape into 4 patties
* Grill on the grill to your likeness. - You can also broil these patties or grill them on your George Foreman Grill, which takes about 8-10 minutes for a well done burger.
* Slap that pattie on a bun and decorate to your liking!

TNT Tuesday - Sub Ring

Wow! I know I have missed posting the "TNT Tuesday" Recipe for several weeks and I do apologize. I tend to bite off more than I can chew and just can't seem to juggle everything!

Anyhoo - this is a very simple recipe, but one my teenage daughter requests a lot. Everyone is amazed at how great the bread taste and they think I have slaved in the kitchen all day making homemade bread! Ha!! - I actually took this to a birthday party last month and everyone kept saying where did this bread come from. I simply said "I made it!" My philosophy on "homemade" is - if it didn't come in your house looking like it is when you serve it, and you actually had to prepare it in your home - - then it is homemade! :o)

This recipe originally came from The Pampered Chef years ago when I was a consultant.....

Sub Sandwich Ring

Ingredients:

2 Pillsbury French Loaf (canned bread in the dairy section of your local grocery store)
Italian Seasoning Mix (Garlic, Oregano, Basil)
Lunchmeat of your choice (Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, all the above.....)
Cheese slices of your choice
Veggie toppings of your choice (lettuce, onions, tomato, olives, etc)
Italian Dressing
Condiments of your choice (mayonaise, mustard, etc)

* Preheat oven according to cooking directions on bread label.
* Take the french loaf out of the packaging and place one loaf on your pan in a semi-circle shape. Then place the other french loaf in a semi-circle shape where it makes an "O" shape. Pinch the ends together that meet so it forms one large circle. Make sure and pinch all the way around so it does not separate. (This dough is "stretchy" so feel free to pull on it and make your circle as big as your pan will allow.
* Take a serrated knife and cut about 6 diagnol slits on the top of the bread to allow the bread to expand while cooking. These do not need to be deep at all, just use the tip of the knife.
* Spray the dough with Pam Spray or brush lightly with oil of your choice.
* Sprinkle on the seasonings of your choice.
* Bake in the oven 25-30 minutes.
* While bread is cooking you can cut up your veggie toppings.
* Once bread is done, let cool then cut the bread in half horizontally to remove the "top" of the bread.
* Spread with your condiments of choice (Mayonaise, mustard, etc) layer on your meat, cheese and veggies, sprinkle with Italian Dressing and then replace the top.

* Then you are ready to slice into serving sizes!

(If you do not want to make the "circle", you can easily lay two loaves straight out on your pan and make two sub sandwiches as well... The circle just makes it "fun")

Product Review: Fight the Signs of Aging with Olay & a Giveaway!!

Thanks to my friends over at MyBlogSpark, I was provided with a full-size sample of the new Olay Total Effects Body Wash to try out and then share my findings and opinions (good or bad) with my fellow bloggers and readers. Well......I have been using this product for the last 30 days and I have to say that I am amazed!

Before I go into too much detail about the product itself, let me just say that I am not one to be "choosy" when using body wash products. I have always been of the mindset that a body wash, is a body wash, is a body wash. One may smell better than another, one may be a little thicker or "suds up" better than another, but other than that, all body washes were equal in my mind and simply did the job of getting you clean. Well, let me be the first to point out that I am so WRONG (being a woman, I don't admit that too often, so you know I am telling the truth!) :o)

When I received my package from MyBlogSpark, I received a full size bottle of the Deep Penetrating Moisture Body Wash, along with a bath puff, to try out and see what I thought. The materials that were provided claimed to fight 7 signs of aging while you shower, which included Improving Elasticity, Relieving Dryness, Deeply Conditioning Skin, Brightening Dull Skin, Evening Skin Tone, Smoothing Rough Skin and Minimizing the Appearance of Dry Lines.

I can honestly say just after my very first shower using this body wash, there was an immediate softness to my skin. After about a week or so, I could tell a drastic difference in the smoothness of my skin, particularly in my upper arms where I previously had rough and "bumpy" spots. By the end of the month, I also no longer had dry skin, particularly in my calf area where I tend to have dry skin during this time of year.

The body wash is extremely thick and "a little dab will do ya" so the body wash lasts a long time since you do not have to use very much each time you shower. It does not have a strong smell like some body washes do that sometimes over power you but simply leaves you smelling clean and fresh.

I would highly recommend this body wash to anyone looking to improve the look and feel of their skin, particularly those that are skeptical like me. I promise you will be amazed!

TNT Tuesday - Chicken & Rice Bake

This is one of my favorite "comfort food" meals. If I remember correctly, I got this recipe years ago directly from Campbell's.

Chicken & Rice Bake

1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Cream of Mushroom Soup

1 can water

3/4 c. Uncooked White Rice

1/4 tsp. Paprika

1/4 tsp. Pepper

4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breast

* In 2 qt. dish (or 9x13 pan if making with 6 pieces) mix soup, water, rice, paprika and pepper.

* Place chicken on top of rice mixture. Sprinkle top of chicken with additional paprika and pepper.

* Cover with foil (or lid to casserole dish) and bake 45 minutes or until done.

I can not believe it is already Tuesday and time for another TNT Tuesday recipe. These weeks are flying by!

This is actually a fairly new recipe to me, however my family fell in love with it the first night I made it. I also fell in love with it because it was super easy and quick to the table which meant I could get on with the rest of my exciting evening of laundry, cleaning and crafts after dinner! :o)

I actually got this receipe right off the back of a bag of Armor Cocktail Meatballs!

Meatball and Pasta Skillet

8 oz. penne pasta
1T oil
1/2 medium bell pepper, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 small onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
32 small meatballs
1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup shredded parmesean cheese

* Prepare pasta as directed.
* As pasta is boiling, heat oil in a large pot and saute onions/peppers for 3 minutes.
* Stir in spaghetti sauce and meatballs and simmer for 10 minutes or until meatballs are hot.
* Add drained pasta to meatballs and sauce.
* Sprinkle top with cheeses, cover with lid and heat an additional 5 minutes for cheese to melt.

That's it! Yummo! (I actually doubled the entire recipe and had plenty to feed my family of four with plenty of leftovers for everyone's lunch)

Frugal Fridays: Travelling Frugally

WOW! It is already Friday, and time for the weekend again. This weekend we are headed out of state to visit family so I figured I would share some tips for frugal traveling. Travel, whether it be for a full-fledge "vacation" or simply a run out of town to see some family or friends, travel can definitely put a dent in your bank account. Below are some ways that you can try to save a dollar or two while still getting to head out of town on a needed break.

* When we travel, whether it is just a 2 hour trip to visit friends in the upstate, or an 8 hour drive, I always try to pack some snacks for the ride. Stopping at convenience stores along the way for "snacks" tend to add up. If you have room, you also might consider packing a small cooler with drinks. When you arrive at your destination, these snacks can also come in handy for those "midnight snacks" instead of trying to dig for quarters to get something you really don't want out of the expensive vending machines.

* On long trips, I remember my mom packing a cooler for a "picnic lunch" when there were several of us travelling. We would stop at a rest area with picnic tables and everyone eat sandwiches, chips and drinks. This not only saved money, but also allowed everyone to get out and stretch their legs. When you travel with a large group, this will also be a "speedier" way to eat so you can get back on the road to your destination instead of wasting an hour or more sitting in a restaurant trying to serve a large group.

* Eating out is something you usually can't avoid when traveling, but you can try to eat cost effectively. If staying at a hotel, find out if your hotel offers a free breakfast. That will take care of one meal if so! :o) Also find out how late they serve breakfast. If they happen to serve it a little later, you can always eat a large breakfast at 10:30 or 11:00 and that might tide you over so you dont have to eat lunch and can just pack a snack for lunch, saving your money to spend on a nice dinner.

* Think twice about buying that knick-knack! A lot of people always want to buy souveniers when they go somewhere to "take back a piece of their vacation" with them. That is perfectly fine to do, but I would suggest you make that purchase wisely. I started a tradition a while back where we buy a Christmas ornament where we visit. That way at Christmas time, we can look at the tree and remember all the places we have been together and what great vacations we have had. After the holiday, they are boxed up and stored to enjoy the next holiday. Magnets, coffee mugs, thimbles or those little doll size forks with decor on the top I guess are great for collecting, but eventually they seem to end up in yard sale or Goodwill donation boxes. And in my house, all they would collect is dust, which is one thing I dont need help doing.

* Hotel loyalty programs. All hotels seems to have them these days. You basically sign up for a "membership" (which is free) and every time you stay at that particular chain of hotels you earn points. As your points build up, you earn free or discounted rooms. Unlike credit cards that you earn credits for (which seem to take years before you actually have enough points to earn something), these points do tend to add up quickly. In the last two years we have gotten several nights free with just staying a few visits.

These are just a few ideas of saving some money while traveling. Now, I better get off of here and finish my packing so we can hit the road soon. Do you have a favorite tip to share for saving money while traveling?

TNT Tuesday - Chicken Mozzarella

For this week's recipe, thought I would share with you "the boy's" second most favorite meal. I must admit I rarely make this as it just is not one of those things that pop in my head, so I guess I need to put this on the list to cook one day soon.

Chicken Mozzarella

4-6 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
1 can condensed tomato soup
1/2 t oregano
1/2 t garlic powder (or one clove crushed garlic)
Shredded Mozzarella

* Place chicken in baking dish
* Mix soup and spices together and pour over chicken
* Bake 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees
* Sprinkle with cheese and bake an additional 2-3 minutes until cheese melts.

Frugal Friday - Gift Wrapping Frugally

OK, I have a question for everyone out there about gift wrapping. When I met my current husband and his family, I noticed at every birthday or holiday function that involved gifts, that at the end of the "party" all the gift wrappings would be balled up and thrown in the garbage. GASP!! Now, I am not talking about the ripped off wrapping paper, of course that was balled up and thrown away. What I am talking about are the gift boxes and, more importantly, the gift bags! I was shocked!! At first I didn't say anything, but I seemed to quickly become a part of this family so after a while I did not feel bad about grabbing up the bags/boxes and storing them for future use. Of course, they all laughed at me, especially my now husband and mother in law. You would have thought I was dumpster diving in a strangers home the way they laughed at me scooping up bags to reuse.

As long as I remember, I have just always kept gift bags and "recycled them" for future birthdays, holidays, etc. and I guess I assumed everyone did this......apparently NOT!

Am I the only person on the planet that does this, besides my mother of course?!?!

Do you know how much those little gift bags even costs?!? No, they are not $2o or $30 each, but they are sometimes $4 or $5. You take that $5 bag and multiply it by the 25 gifts or so you buy every year (even more including all Christmas!) and you have spent $100 or more on something that is simply discarded and thrown away by the gift recipient (not me of course)! You might as well wrap the thing in toilet paper if all they are going to do is trash it - right?!

So, in my house, everyone now knows to NOT throw that bag away because mom will come and swoop it up and put it in the gift closet to be used on the next appropriate day. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not going to use a Frilly Pink Gift Bag that my daughter may get to bag up something for my son for his birthday....I am not that bad .......yet. :o) And I'm not going to use a "baby boy" giftbag to wrap up a wedding gift for someone....after all, that may give the wrong impression to some people. LOL

So......my frugal friday tip for today is to reuse those gift bags! No one will ever know anyway! Don't have gift bags? That is OK. You can still wrap frugally by using some of the below frugal gift wrapping suggestions:

* Got newspaper? Use the comics to wrap a child's birthday gift in.
* Got brown paper grocery bags? or even lunch bags for a small gift? Give your kids some crayons or markers and let them decorate the bag. This is especially great for grandparents to receive. Then, they will most likely even keep the bag since their grandbabies made it! LOL
* Giving a small kitchen gift? Wrap it in a kitchen towel. They will be sure not to throw it away then.
* Use baskets. You would surprised how many nice baskets or wooden boxes, etc. that you can find at a thrift store that would make cute gift baskets.

Possibilities are endless...... Use your imagination.

For something that my husband used to laugh at me for, now he is the first to say "Hey, you got a gift bag for this?" when he has something to wrap. He is becoming more and more "frugally" the more he hangs around me. :o) (Frugally....is that even a word?)

TNT Tuesday - Creamy Macaroni & Cheese

For this week's TNT Recipe, I am sharing with you my most requested dish. Anytime I am invited over for a potluck dinner, or any family gathering such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, or any other holiday that requires a bunch of family cooking, this is what I am required to bring. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. This recipe was given to me by my good friend Evelyn years ago. My immediately family is always mad because I will not make this throughout the year just for regular ole' home dinner because then it ain't special when it comes time to take everywhere else! LOL

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese

8 oz. elbow macaroni and cheese

4 c. shredded mild cheddar

8 oz. sour cream

1 c. mayonaise

2 T chopped onion (optional)

1 c Cheese-It crackers, crushed

* Bowl noodles and drain;

* Mix noodles, cheese, sour cream, mayonaise and onions until well mixed.

* Put mixture in greased 9x9 pan, sprinkle top with crackers.

Cook in 325 degree oven for 35-40 minutes or until edges start toasting.

Frugal Fridays: "I eat Organic. How can I save on those items"

A lot of people these days are trying to follow a more healthy lifestyle, which sometimes include eating organic foods. I will admit that I do not buy organic products myself, at least not on a regular basis, but I have noticed that organic items seem to be a little bit more pricey. To help those of you that prefer the organic food items, I wanted to provide some websites where you may be able to obtain some coupons for those items and try to buy as "frugally" as possible.

DO NOT simply go by what is pictured on the coupon, you would be surprised how often the picture on the coupon does not accurately represent what the coupon is actually for - - read the print!

Keep in mind I did not have any ECBs (Extra Care Bucks) to work with since I had previously spent them so I was starting from scratch this week. My main goal was to buy a few things, not come out of pocket a whole bunch, and have some ECBs left over for other stuff.

So, you see - I spent a total $5.49 of my hard earned cash; actually received $13.97 worth of product and then left the store with $7.49 in ECBs to use on next trip - - - so technically I got all this stuff for "Free" plus they paid me $2.00!!! Make sense??

TNT Tuesday - Elcair Dessert

It's Tuesday, which means another 'TNT Recipe" . Since Publix has graham crackers on sale this week, I thought I would share a dessert with you that uses those crackers, that is easy-peasy to make, and flies off the table even faster!

Eclair Dessert

1 Box Graham Crackers
2 small boxes of Vanilla Pudding (can use Sugar Free and your family will never know!)
3 cups milk
1 12oz. container of Cool Whip (can use Fat Free and your family will never know!
1 container Ready to Frost Frosting (just regular, not whipped or nothing fancy)

In a 13x9 dish, line the bottom of the pan with graham crackers. You may have to break a few crackers in half to fit into corners, etc.

Mix together the pudding mixes and milk. Let sit for 2 minutes to thicken. Once thickened, fold the cool whip into the pudding mixture.

Pour half of the pudding mixture easily onto the crackers and spread, being careful not to totally disrupt the crackers underneath.

Put another layer of crackers on top of the pudding mixture you just poured and then pour the remaining pudding on top. Finish with one last layer of crackers on the top.

Remove the lid and foil liner from the frosting container, and place it in the microwave for 1 minute to melt it. Then immediately pour it onto the crackers and smooth across the top of crackers.

Put in refrigerator to "set".

It might not seem like it, but I promise this will taste just like a chocolate covered cream puff when it is ready!

I am not positive on how long it needs to "set", but I normally fix this around mid day when I want to use it that evening.

Monday Menu Plan

Starting today, on Mondays I will try to post my Menu Plan for the week. I have found it is so much easier if I sit down and plan out, at least basically, what I am going to cook for the week. Instead of coming home after working all day and then taking 30 minutes to figure out what I am going to fix, at least I know when I walk in the door and can get busy cooking. This also helps me in remembering to pull out that chicken to thaw the night before, or remembering to get up 5 minutes earlier to throw something in the crockpot.

There are so many people that have said "Wish I could do that". Well - you can! Just remember, just because you make a plan, that don't mean you can't change your mind. But, at least you have something to start with!

Here is my plan for the week, maybe it will help you kick start your menu plan:

Monday - Chili Dogs, Potato Salad and Carrot Sticks

Tuesday - Spaghetti and garlic bread

Wednesday - Pot Roast with potatoes and carrots (crockpot!) - Easy Peasy!

Thursday - Baked pork chops, scalloped potatoes and green beans

Friday - Family Night Dinner Out

Saturday - Sub Ring and chips for lunch; Frozen Pizza for kids (Date Night for the grownups!)

Sunday - Grilled Chicken, Rice, Corn on Cob

Frugal Fridays: Date Night On the "Cheap"

We are starting a new post topic here on "Mom with Coupons" called "Frugal Fridays". Each Friday we will try to discuss a topic on being frugal, watching your pennies, saving money, or whatever you want to call it.

Since Valentine's Day is coming up, a lot of people are thinking about having a Date Night with their sweetie, so the topic has came up lately on how to do so on a tight budget. Even if you aren't on a "tight budget" but you are simply watching your dollars, you can still have a Date Night that is enjoyable. Below are a few ideas that I hope get your mind thinking on how to have a special night but not blow too much money.

1. If you are thinking of a "Valentine's Date", one big way to possibly save is to go celebrate Valentines the weekend before or after the actual holiday. Lots of restaurants may raise their rates for Valentine Weekend, plus the crowds are horrible. Might not save money by going the week before or week after, but you will save time, and in my book, time is money. I would rather spend an hour doing something else fun, then sitting on a hard bench outside a restaurant waiting on my number to be called.

2. Dinner and a Movie - probably the most common "Date Night" there is. These days, going to a movie can easily break the bank with the prices of movie tickets. Then, if you take a trip to the concession stand you might need to take out a second mortgage! But there are ways of course to save money and still enjoy a good movie.

Want to take in the latest and greatest movie? Consider going to an early lunch and then a matinee. Most all cinemas are 50-75% cheaper if you go to a movie that starts before 6:00. Not to mention, going to a restaurant for lunch is usually cheaper than the full price dinner menu as well.

Some towns have what I call the "cheap cinema". That is normally one of the older cinemas in your town that don't have the stadium seating with the nice reclining chairs and the theatre itself is usually smaller. We have one here in Ladson and I love it. Why do I want to pay like $9.00 to go to a "new and improved" theatre when I can watch the same exact movie for $4.00 in the "older cinema". Check out your town to see if you have one, you might be surprised.

Or, if you are not one that has to see the latest and greatest, consider seeing if the kids can stay with the grandparents or a friend and rent a movie and stay in. No one to watch the kids, then rent the kids their own movie and give them a big bowl of popcorn and let them watch their "own movie" in their room while the grownups watch their own movie. These days most grocery stores, drug stores and even some gas stations have Blockbuster, Redbox or other similar type machines that you can rent a new release movie for $1.00! You can't beat that! And, if you sign up on their websites you regularly get codes to rent free movies!

Another way to save on dinner is to purchase gift certificates on line at www.Restaurants.com. You can normally get a $25.00 gift certificate for $5.00. Some restrictions apply but they are well worth the price.

3. "Stroll through the Park". We are lucky here in that Charleston has nice waterfront parks and other areas that nice walks can be taken, day or night. One of my favorite places to go (weather permitting) is to take a stroll at night on our Waterfront Park and pier at night. They have nice swings under canopies that you can relax on, and we have done that for hours before. Doesn't cost a thing and you would be surprised how much the two of you can actually talk, or just enjoy each other's company in silence, without your kids interrupting every 10 minutes.

If you do go stroll a park during the day, why not pack a picnic lunch and "cop a squat" (as Julia Robert's said in Pretty Woman) under a tree and have a nice lunch. I am not a big sandwich eater at home, but sandwiches always seem to taste better during a picnic. :o)

4. Day Trip to No Where. May cost you a little in gas, but why not just get in the car and drive. Maybe there is a flea market up the interstate you always wanted to go to but never took the time to stop. Or you saw a little antique store one day and again, never took the time to stop. Take the time and just go sightseeing in or around your area. Not sure where to go? Everytime you get to an intersection or an exit off an interstate, flip a quarter - heads you go right, tails you go left, or heads you get off on the exit, tails you keep on going. You never know where you may end up or what great little flea markets, produce stands or other little roadside interest you may find. Even if you don't find anything new, you will be surprised at the conversations you can have just driving around.

5. Ice Cream Parlor. I know what you are thinking, they are not called ice cream parlors anymore. But if you dont want to spend money on going out to eat, eat at home and then go out for a dessert somewhere. It does not have to be fancy or expensive. Go to McDonald's and get a soft serve cone to share, go to Shoney's and split a Hot Fudge Sundae, Sonic's Drive Thrus usually always have some type of 99 cent "Sundae" or Banana Split on their menu.

6. Go "Window Shopping". No, I don't mean your hubbie or better half has to walk you around the mall and carry your purse for you! Go shopping for things you have no intention to even buy. We have been known on a Saturday when we have time to ourselves, to just go walking through various furniture stores and look at everything to see what we like, what we agree on, what we don't agree on, etc. We have also been and spent hours walking through Modular Homes and even RVs. Don't cost nothing to look - right?

These are just a few ideas to help you get your ideas flowing. Whatever you do, just make it fun.

TNT Tuesday - Scrumptious Beef

OK, I am going to try and start a new series (if I can remember each week to post it, LOL!) and post a TNT Recipe on Tuesdays. TNT means "Tried n' True" - - which in my house means I have cooked it and my family has actually asked me to cook it over and over again. If the family does not ask me for a particular dish again, that means they don't like it and I am never to cook it again.

So.....for this week's TNT Tuesday, I wanted to share the favorite dish of the youngest member of our family. If I ever ask him what to fix, this is the dish. I don't mind cooking it, because it is yet another Crockpot recipe which means dinner is just about on the table by the time I get home from work.

Scrumptious Beef

2 pounds Stew Meat, cut to bite size pieces
10 1/2 oz. can of Beef Broth
10 3/4 oz. Cream of Mushroom soup
Envelope of Onion Soup Mix (or simply about 3 T of dried onion)

* Combine all of the above items in a crockpot
* Cook on low for 7-8 hours (or even up to 10 hours is usually fine, especially if meat was frozen)
* Serve over cooked rice.

Yummy!

Jeepers, Creepers, Look at those Peepers!

Being a BzzAgent, I was asked to perform a 4 week challenge using L'Oreal Paris Lash Boosting Power System with Lash Boosting Serum and Mascara. I am about 2 weeks into my challenge and am really impressed so far! This is a 3-step mascara system which claims to be able to strengthen your lashes, make your lashes appear fuller, healthier and longer. So far, I believe they are living up to their claims!

I know, you are thinking "3-steps! I don't have time for that!" I know you are thinking that, because that is precisely what I was thinking when I first received the package in the mail!! However, this mascara goes on so smooth and coats well, it literally takes me less time to use this system than several mascaras that I have tried before, since I dont have to put 4 or 5 coats of mascara on to make my lashes appear the way I want them to.

The first step is the clear lash boosting serum. Once you let that dry (by the time you put on your blush or whatever other makeup you want to put on, it will be dry), then you put on a coat of the primer base which is basically like a "white mascara". It coats your lashes and brings them to a terrific length in just one swipe of the brush! Then, you simply put on a coat of the masara and you have thick, full, and long lashes that every woman wants.

I have found there to be no flaking of the mascara and it easily comes off with makeup remover without any smudging or "raccoon eyes" afterwards. I have also not had any "lash loss" since using this system, even when removing the mascara. I would highly recommend anyone with faint, thin, sparse eye lashes to give this product a try!

Once I complete my 4-week Challenge I will try to post my before and after pictures here so we can tell the difference it has made in my lashes, with and without the product on.

Can you have a Paperless Kitchen??

"Does no one have paper towels on sale this week?"...... That is how our dinner conversation started the other night.

Since I started this "extreme coupon shopping" about a year or so ago, my family has learned that unless something is on sale AND I have a coupon for it, the chance of my buying it are very slim! I try my best not to have to buy something unless those two criterias are met, but of course there are times when I just HAVE to have something that is not on sale. (Such as when I somehow forgot to stock up on toilet paper and we run out and I have to pay full price for it......we can't exactly go without toilet paper now can we!) So....yes, I will go buy what I MUST for full price, but I will moan and groan about it for a week afterwards.......Of course, there are also those items that will rarely ever meet the criteria, such as fresh product and meat. (However, even those items must be at least on sale to get purchased........)

So, when my family went to go sit down for dinner the other night to eat their messy BBQ Chicken, hubby automatically goes to grab some paper towels to pass out for napkins. When the roll was empty, he asked the question about the paper towels not being on sale. I found it funny that he picked this night to ask me about the paper towels since we have not had paper towels or paper napkins in the house in just about a month or so now and the fact that I had just wondered to myself that same day when anyone was ever going to notice - or had they noticed and just not mentioned it.....I simply replied "I don't know, I didn't look because I didn't want to buy any." Hubby quickly responded "Just wondering since we have been out now for several weeks." WOW - the family did notice and just never bothered to ask about them - I assume they didn't mention since they just assumed they had not been on sale! LOL

Now, do not think I have just left my family defenseless and they had to use their sleeves to wipe their mouths and their pants to wipe their hands. I have been placing cloth napkins beside every ones plates now for several weeks. However, most nights I have noticed that after dinner the napkins are still neatly folded by their plates and unused. It is funny how if there are paper napkins or towels, each person will run through 2 or 3 at each sitting to keep their hands and mouths clean, however you put a nice cloth napkin at their plates and I guess they simply did not want to "get them dirty". LOL - You see, I didn't mention to anyone in the family the fact that I was thinking about going paperless. I have found that if I want to try something new out around the house, it is best just to do it and not mention it. It usually seems to go a little smoother that way.

Why am I telling you this story? Well, I am trying to go to a "paperless kitchen". After cutting my grocery bills as much as I can with shopping sales and using coupons, I have started looking at our budget to see in what other ways I could reduce not only wasteful spending, but products that we are simply wasting and can do without. The simplest adjustment I thought we could try first, was to stop using so much paper towels and paper napkins. It seemed we were running through at least one roll of towels per day - clearly someone in the house was eating them since that is the only reason I can think we use so much in a house of 4 people!

So, back in December when we ran out of paper towels and napkins, I simply did not buy any more. I had received some cloth napkins and additional kitchen towels over the holidays and that is what we are now using.

The transition to cloth from paper has not been that difficult, at least not to me. We now have cloth napkins that we use at dinner and then simply toss in the wash. Of course, since my family is scared to dirty them apparently, I have not had to wash them too often. However, since the topic has now been brought up that we have no napkins and that there are actually cloth napkins sitting at everyone's plate, and apparently they have now been given "permission" to use them, I imagine they will start using them more. I guess they thought I was simply putting them on the table for the table to look nice........

I have sponges and dish rags that I use to clean the counters and when we wash our hands in the kitchen, instead of simply grabbing a paper towel to dry our hands, we actually use a Hand Towel - that is what they are for - right?!

When friends and family discover that I was "going paperless", the first question that always arises is "What do you drain your fried french fries and bacon on?" Well, to be honest, I do not fry things in my house for the most part. I bake my french fries (on Pampered Chef stoneware so there is no grease!) and I do not fry bacon (GASP - you live in the South and don't fry bacon?!) When I brown ground meat, I simply dump it in a colandar to drain the grease - no need for a paper towel there either!

In addition to cutting out paper towels and napkins, I have also cut out paper plates. I used to buy these simply because I got tired of coming home to a sink full of dishes when the kids were home after school and seemed to try to dirty every plate and glass in the house before I could get home from work. At one point I threatened to throw out every nice plate, glass and silverware and simply live on paper plates, plastic cups and plastic utensils so they could simply throw out their dishes, but I quickly realized that was just silly. So, I went the total opposite direction. After about 100 meltdowns to coming home to dirty dishes piled everywhere, the kids are now putting their dishes in the dishwasher for the most part - that or they are throwing them away, which I guess would explain the missing dishware...hmmmm.

I hope this encourages you to look at your household use and expenses and see if perhaps you could go paperless too, or cut things in other areas that may simply be a waste.

Recipe - Shredded Pork in the Crockpot

Good morning ladies. As I told you the other day, Bi Lo has their Boston Butts on sale for 99 cents per pound. This is a pretty good price. Every once in a while they will get as low as 79 cents per pound but 99 cents is still a good deal. Anytime they are on sale for this price, I stock up on at least 2 or 3 as my family LOVES when I cook BBQ and we have it a couple times a month usually.

So, since Boston Butts are on sale this week and some of you don't know what to do with a Boston Butt, thought I would share my recipe with you today. My goal is to share at least one recipe per week that is a "tried and true" recipe that my family loves that incorporates at least one item that is on sale for that week. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

BBQ Shredded Pork (Provided to me years ago by my good friend Joette C.)

3 lb or larger Boston Butt
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup water
BBQ sauce of choice (my family prefers I use a mustard base sauce)

* Place the Boston Butt in your crockpot and pour the vinegar and water over the top of the roast.
* You can salt and pepper the meat, along with any other "spices" your family like at this point. However, my family always prefers it when I cook it "plain".
* Cook on low in your crockpot for 8-10 hours (I have been known to leave them in the crockpot overnight and until the next afternoon when I come home from work and it still cooks up wonderfully and never overcooks).
* When ready, drain the liquid from the crockpot and use two forks to shred the meat.
* Add your favorite bottle of bbq sauce, stir and enjoy. (Sometimes I leave it "plain" in the crockpot and let everyone use the sauce on the side as well, especially if company is coming that may prefer a "red" bbq sauce.) Good served on hamburger buns as well!

That is it!!! I know - you are thinking "That is awfully plain and it ain't going to be good." But I assure you, try it and you will like it. I cooked 30 pounds of boston butt for a party I had a couple months ago and everyone that came raved about it and said it was the best they have had, including any from the "famous BBQ spots" in town!

This is weird - I am actually going to tell you to go to Wal-Mart to buy something! I know, I know, some of you are thinking "I LOVE Walmart!" and yes, I LOVE Walmart too, sometimes. However, I have learned over the last year that Wal-mart is about the last place I buy groceries or household products because I can usually end up getting them for lots less other places when they are on sale and I have coupons. After all, Walmart tells you all the time "Low Prices Everyday", that is their way of saying "Don't look for a sale here!" because they keep their prices the same all the time (at least most the time.) Anyhoo, off my soapbox about Walmart, today I do have a deal to share with you for some inexpensive deodorant.

How to - Shop at CVS with Extra Care Bucks

If you are reading this post, you have probably "heard through the grapevine" that people are buying up loads of stuff at CVS and getting their items FREE and you want to get in on that action. Well - me too!! Although I have been couponing for quite some time now, I have pretty much avoided the whole "CVS system". Now of course, every once in a while I will see a good deal on something on their bright sign out front and run in and grab one or two items, or get my prescriptions filled there. But other than that, I pretty much avoid the store. I just didn't think I needed one more store or one more "sytem" to figure out. And plus, CVS, in my opinion (and other great shoppers out there) CVS is overall high priced on everything. However, just like any other store or "shopping sytem" out there, they will always have good deals on items as well.

Well, I have been sticking my little toe into the CVS system the last 3 or 4 weeks and boy......have I been missing out!!! I could just kick myself in the you know what for not shopping and scouring the CVS ad a long time ago!!!

So, over the next several weeks we will simply learn together on how to get the best deals on the CVS system. For now, I will give you a very brief run down on what the CVS system is all about.

CVS has a customer loyalty program, just as most grocery stores have these days. Their program is called Extra Care. To participate in the program (and to get FREE Stuff and great deals) you must have an Extra Care card. If you don't have one, then put that on your list of things to do this week! You simply go to your local CVS store and tell the cashier you want to sign up for their Extra Care program and "Voila!" you will be a card carrying member of the Extra Care program. (You can also sign up online, however then you have to wait for your card to come in the mail to start enjoying the savings.)

So, now you have your little card in hand - what do you do?

First, everytime you shop at CVS, before you put your items on the counter to checkout, be sure to hand your card to the cashier. This will tell the register that you are a "loyal customer" and automatically ring up your items at the advertised low prices for the items on sale that week/month.

This card will also enable you to earn "Extra Care Bucks" that are on special at any given time you go. What are Extra Care Bucks (ECBs)? I like to think of them as Paper Money. When you buy certain advertised specials that earn you ECBs, your ECBs will print at the bottom of your cash register receipt. BE SURE TO LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL YOUR RECEIPTS, OTHERWISE YOU MAY BE THROWING MONEY AWAY!!

For instance, this past week if you purchased a Scope Outlast Mouthwash, you earned $1.00 ECB. So after I purchased my mouthwash, a $1.00 ECB printed at the bottom of my receipt. I in turn clipped that "cash" off the bottom of my receipt and placed it in my wallet. So, on my next trip to CVS I already have $1.00 to spend on whatever I want in the store. Now keep in mind that ECBs are just like cash in that (1) it spends just like cash at any CVS store on any future purchases and (2) if you lose it or throw it away, nobody is going to replace it for you. So, make sure you keep these in a safe place just like you would cash.

Your goal in shopping at CVS is to continuously purchase items that earn you ECBs so on your next trip to CVS, you will have ECBs to spend for your items you need and not have to spend your hard earned cash. That is how people say they get stuff at CVS for FREE because they are walking in the store with ECBs to pay for their merchandise and walking out without having to spend any REAL money. Make sense?

When you are just starting this system, of course you are going to be OOP (out of pocket) some regular hard earned cash since you don't have any ECBs to begin with, but within just a few short weeks, you will see how you will earn ECBs and then continuously "roll them over" into other products for more ECBs

Over the last 3 weeks, I had earned ECBs on my purchases and have been using them week after week to buy more items that earned me additional ECBs. However, this week I used up all my ECBs that I had in hand by buying items they had on sale that did not earn me any ECBs so now I am once again starting from scratch. So, starting next week I will share with you my scenarios for buying things at CVS and we will see how we can help each other in rolling our ECBs from week to week to see how much of a "stash" of ECBs we can get and we can all start getting our FREE merchandise as well. I will admit - I loved walking in CVS this week and buying my Tide detergeant (which I hate to spend my hard earned cash for) and handing the cashier ECBs with a smile on my face and walking out without having to spend any of my cold hard cash!

Hello there! Sorry this is late and not provided yesterday but there is just not enough hours in my day, especially around the holidays.
